E-Safety

Introduction

Ensuring e-safety (online safety) for students is a crucial aspect of modern education. As technology becomes more integrated into daily life, it’s important learners are taught and engage with topics which discuss how to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Though we do not teach ICT specifically, the use of technology is addressed via curriculum subjects areas where discussions will be had which focus on many key points related to e-safety including:

Privacy and Personal Information: Teach students about the importance of safeguarding their personal information online. Emphasize the need to create strong, unique passwords and to be cautious about sharing personal details.

Cyberbullying Awareness: Educate students about the harmful effects of cyberbullying and how to prevent and report it. Encourage an open dialogue so that students feel comfortable discussing any issues they may encounter online.

Privacy and Personal Information: Teach students about the importance of safeguarding their personal information online. Emphasize the need to create strong, unique passwords and to be cautious about sharing personal details.

Social Media Awareness: Discuss the benefits and risks of using social media platforms. Encourage students to think before they post, and remind them that digital footprints can have long-lasting effects.

Online Stranger Danger: Educate students about the potential risks of interacting with strangers online. Teach them to be cautious when sharing information or communicating with people they don’t know in real life.

Respectful Online Communication: Emphasize the importance of respectful and kind communication in online interactions, just as they would in face-to-face interactions.

Reporting Mechanisms: Ensure that students are aware of how to report inappropriate or concerning content and behavior online, both within the school and on various online platforms

Parent and Guardian Involvement: Involve parents and guardians in discussions about e-safety. Provide resources and guidance for them to support their children’s safe online experiences.

By incorporating e-safety education into our school’s curriculum and promoting responsible digital behavior, we aim to help learners to become informed and confident digital citizens who can navigate the online world safely and ethically.
