Equality and Diversity
Promoting equality and community cohesion
At Ormiston Latimer Academy, we are deeply committed to fairness, equality, and respect in all that we do.
We strive to ensure that:
- Everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect.
- Our academy provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.
- We recognise and value individual differences — understanding that equality does not always mean treating everyone the same.
- Additional support is provided where needed so that every student has the opportunity to succeed and achieve their potential.
- Students, parents/carers, and community members are actively involved in decision-making through regular consultation and our Student Council.
We are committed to ensuring that no one experiences discrimination, harassment, or less favourable treatment because of their:
age, disability, ethnicity, colour, national origin, gender, gender identity or reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, religion or beliefs, or sexual orientation.
Our Legal and Moral Commitments
We fully embrace our duties under the Equality Act 2010 to:
- Eliminate discrimination;
- Advance equality of opportunity;
- Foster good relations within our community.
In line with our specific duties, we:
- Publish information about our academy population;
- Demonstrate how we have due regard for equality.
- Set and share equality objectives that outline our priorities for reducing inequality and promoting inclusion.
We also recognise the Ofsted framework’s focus on reducing achievement gaps that can affect:
- Students from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds;
- Students supported by the pupil premium;
- Students with disabilities or special educational needs;
- Boys and girls in particular subjects.
Our Equality Objectives for 2025/26
- Staff Development: Deliver a comprehensive CPD programme to strengthen all staff’s understanding of SEND.
- Raising Attainment: Embed functional skills qualifications in English and Maths, ensuring all students achieve at least Entry Level 3 in both subjects.
- Reading Progress: Identify and support pupils with a Reading Standardised Age Score (SAS) of 85 or below to make measurable progress.
- Sustained Improvement: Embed the EEF “5-a-day” approach across all areas of the school to promote long-term progress and achievement.
