Today, Thursday 18 July, we officially opened Freston Junction, a specialised resource base for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) in The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC). This initiative underscores Ormiston Latimer Academy’s and Ormiston Academies Trust’s commitment to inclusive, high-quality education for young people with special needs.
Freston Junction will cater for 12 children with autism and/or Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, providing tailored educational spaces and personalised learning experiences. During the launch, attendees toured the site and learned about its specialised curriculum and therapeutic support from staff.
Unique in the local area, Freston Junction is supported by investment from RBKC and aims to enhance educational opportunities for children who might otherwise lack access, including those currently home-tutored or in independent provision.
This opening marks a significant development in Ormiston’s inclusive education efforts, following the recent launch of Managed Intervention Centres (MIC) in Stoke and Lowestoft, that offer early intervention support to help students at risk of exclusion stay in mainstream education through personalised frameworks and a specialised PSHE curriculum.
Together, Freston Junction and the MICs reinforce the trust’s dedication to providing top-tier educational opportunities for all students, regardless of their challenges.
